There is no crime in these villages of the country, then what does the police do here?

Jaisalmer The country's third largest district spread over 40 thousand square kilometers. There are 840 villages in this district, out of which 436 are such where no criminal incidents have been registered for the last several years. That is, in more than half of the districts, 'crime rate' is zero. Jaisalmer district's Superintendent of Police, Gaurav Yadav, explains, "The population here is very low, so the crime is no more than that. Second, most of these villages are where people from the same community live. Therefore, if there is a dispute, then it is settled with reconciliation. '

If crime is not the police's work?

When these figures were revealed at the end of last year that hundreds of villages in Jaisalmer were completely 'off-limits', then it was thought that the police stationed here would not have any special work now. But the reality is that the police here also play a key role in making these hundreds of villages crime-free. It can be understood from a recent incident in Sam Police Station area, which is located about 40 km from Jaisalmer city.
In the afternoon of February one afternoon, Peerun Khan, a resident of Nimba village near Sam police station, came with his complaint. They alleged that some people of the village teased him and wanted to harm him. Upon receiving this complaint, the Deputy Inspector of the police station Mahesh Kumar immediately went to his village with Piru Khan, the villagers discussed this issue and after all the parties got rested, they returned from the village. Mahesh Kumar explains, "There are six gram panchayats in our police station, in which there are dozens of villages. Every day we go to some of these villages and meet them. That's why we are personally aware of all the villagers and we have become very close to them. Whenever a small incident happens, the villagers call us for mediation and most of the cases are solved in this manner too. "Mahesh Kumar's affirmation of these things is also done by the villagers, but they also do differently.
There are also areas of Jaisalmer in Sam Police Station area where the movement of tourists is the highest. The main ones include 'Some Sand Dunes' and 'Desert National Park'. Therefore, security arrangements for tourists coming here are also a major task of Police of Sam Police Station. "There are a number of criminal cases registered in our police station, most of them are related to tourists. Yes, some cases of water theft actually come against local people. There is a huge problem of water in this country's most droughtous area. In such cases, cases of government water theft occur many times. "Narendra Kumar further explains," We have more attention in the security of tourists. Most of the tourists visit Jaisalmer everywhere and there is no separate system for their safety. Therefore, every day we place a naka from three o'clock till 10 o'clock in the night. 'Many VIPs come here to visit the area, their security arrangements are also a big task for the police here.

This village was not always free from crime

More than half of the villages in Jaisalmer district are now completely free from crime, they were not always like this. In these villages adjacent to the Pakistan border, there used to be a number of different kinds of crimes. Police inspector Narendra Singh explains, "Until a few years ago Pakistan used to open the border. There was no wire-flood in it. In that time, there used to be a lot of smuggling. The days of smuggling of drugs from drugs to gold and crossing the border by illegal means also came to the fore. But since the border has been sealed, such crimes have almost completely ended. '
There are 13 people named as History Sheetar in Sam Police Station. History Sheeter i.e. notoriously guilty offenders In these 13 names, almost all the people whose names were recorded 10-15 years ago. Almost all of these people were accused of smuggling from Pakistan. In the last few years such a new name is not connected to it. The growing presence of army and paramilitary forces in this area has also become a major cause of crime reduction. The security arrangements in the areas adjacent to the border are entirely in the hands of the army and the BSF. Local police also acknowledges that the military presence has increased in this area, the number of crimes that have occurred here has come down.

Less crime also becomes a problem for the police

The police should be considered as an achievement of few criminal cases registered in police stations and the entire crime of many villages under the police station should be considered as a crime. But many times this fact becomes a cause of trouble for the police. Narendra Kumar explains, 'There are two posts of sub-inspector in our police station but only one posted here. Similarly, ASI has four posts but only one ASI has been deployed. Therefore, the competent officers for the investigation are few here. In such cases, sometimes it is not possible to complete the investigation time in some cases. "He further adds," Since fewer cases are recorded here, so if one case remains pending then the figure will be very big in percentage looks like. For example, if a total of five cases were filed here and one of them remained pending, it would be deemed that pending cases in our police station are twenty percent.
This percentage of pending cases becomes an obstacle in the performance review of the station. Even if there are hundreds of cases lodged in the police stations, the performance of the station is not affected as far as pending cases are pending, even as one or two cases of this area are also pending due to pending cases. Police sub-inspector Mahesh Kumar says, 'This is a technical matter. Percentage of our pending cases seems to be bigger, but in reality it is very small. That is why we are not concerned about this, but it is a matter of great happiness that most of the villages with 'zero crime rate' in our country are in our district. '
