It is said that on this festival the sun comes to meet his son Saturn. Generally, the rise of Venus is also around this time, hence the auspicious work begins here. Some people start eating tea and snacks as soon as they wake up but do not do it on auspicious days. This day should not be consumed without bathing. It is believed that on this day, one should go to the river Ganges or any river, so the Ganges or the holy river should not be proper but at least bath should be done at home.
Women should not wash hair on Makar Sankranti. There should not be teeth whitening even during this period. 'On this day, there should not be any sort of harvesting of trees in or outside the house.'
You will not make any kind of intoxication on Makar Sankranti. You should avoid consumption of alcohol, cigarette, gutkha etc. Spicy food should not be eaten on this day. On this day sesame, mung dal khichdi etc. should be consumed and all these things should be donated as well.
